City attorney, state challenge Seattle council’s closed budget-cut sessions

Washington’s Open Public Meetings Act

Seattle City Attorney Tom Carr said the private, closed-door budget briefings between city council members and the mayor’s staff may violate the state’s open-meeting law. Carr joined the Washington Attorney General’s Office and the public-policy group Evergreen Freedom Foundation on Thursday in questioning the sessions.

Maybe the salary negotiations between the City of Renton and the Unions should be opened up for public discussion.  Note that the non-union employees were asked to take furlow days but the union employees were not.

Joe’s calling it quits, sale begins Friday

SEATTLE — After 57 years, Joe’s Sports, Outdoor & More, formerly known as G.I. Joe’s, is going out of business.

The decision came Thursday during a bankruptcy hearing. A liquidator plans to purchase the company and sell all of the merchandise down to the bare shelves. A massive going-out-of-business sale will begin Friday at all 31 of the chain’s stores.
