The Sunset Area Community Investment Strategy meeting last night gave us a small glimpse at what is planned for the Sunset corridor.
We were able to record a video of the event and also take some pictures of the material presented.
As soon as we have it compiled, we will post a link here for you to review.
Also make note that on September 10, 2009 there will be a Open House and BBQ at the Highlands Community Center for the public to get a glimpse of what work has been done. The City of Renton has not posted it on their web site yet. When they do, we will update this post with a link.
One concern we have is that there have been meetings with “stakeholders” that were not revealed. We will do our best to identify who those “stakeholders” are and what was discussed.

Will the City step in to save these parks? Probably not. These parks are all in unincorporated areas of Renton (Renton street addresses but not within the Renton City Limits). If the City of Renton did step in, it would probably be on the parks closest to the Renton City Limits with the expectation that the surrounding homes and properties will eventually be annexed into the City.
Here’s a list of the parks in unincorporated Renton:
- Bryn Mawr Park, 118th St. and 80th Ave. S., Renton WA 98059
- Maplewood Heights, 168th Ave. S.E. and S.E. 140th St., Renton WA 98059
- Maplewood Park, S.E. 138th St. and 144th Ave. S.E., Renton WA 98059
- May Creek Park, N.E. 31St. St. and Jones Ave. N.E., Renton WA 98056
- Renton Park, 130th Place S.E. and S.E. 172nd, Renton WA 98058
- Sierra Heights/Honey Dew, S.E. 100th St. and 128th S.E., Renton WA 98059
