Renton and Kent defendants flee federal trial in Seattle

SEATTLE — Two men apparently didn’t like their chances at a federal trial in Seattle - and with good reason.

A U.S. District Court jury on Friday returned guilty verdicts against Hardeep Singh, 18, of Kent, and Kaushal Kainth, 21, of Renton, in a drug conspiracy.

Alleged burglar caught with pants down

A woman caught an alleged burglar in her room with his pants partly pulled down Friday night, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Department.

Nathaniel Janda, 23, was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary after the victim called the front desk of the bed-and-breakfast establishment where she was staying on the Mendocino coast because she believed she was being watched.

RENTON, Wash. –

Renton police are looking for a man responsible for two armed holdups at an espresso stand in October.

 

Both robberies occurred at Simply Espresso at 401 Airport Way North in the City of Renton.

 

Police said in the first incident on Oct. 1 at 11:48 a.m., the man approached on foot and ordered a drink. When given his drink, he implied that he had a weapon in his pocket and demanded money from the register. After receiving the money he fled on foot.

New tenant at The Landing

Kelly DeRitis, co-owner of Poggi Bonsi, confirmed to The B-Town Blog Thursday that they would be “relocating” the original Poggi Bonsi Gift Store (the corner store in Olde Burien at 9th SW and SW 152nd) to a new location in the Renton Landing.The new store will be called Poggi Bonsi and will contain a mixture of gourmet kitchen products, as well as imported ceramics, linens and gifts., like Poggi Bonsi Cucina.

Public opinion wanted on Ballard and Renton cleanups

The state is seeking public comments on two contamination-cleanup agreements — one for Ballard and the other for Renton.

Washington’s Department of Ecology has a proposed agreement with Block at Ballard II to tackle contamination at a site just east of the north end of the Ballard Bridge.

300,000 might have to evacuate if Green River floods

SPECIAL TO SEATTLEPI.COMAs many as 300,000 people might have to be evacuated if a major flood occurs in the Green River Valley this winter, officials said Thursday.

One of the biggest challenges could be evacuating people around Southcenter Mall in Tukwila, where more than 150,000 vehicles can be parked at the shopping center and other businesses during holidays.

Renton transient sentenced to prison for slaying at homeless camp

Van Truong, the 54-year-old Renton man who shot and killed another man at a homeless encampment off Interstate 5 in Seattle last year, was sentenced this afternoon to 15 years in prison for second-degree murder.

King County tests flood barrier to protect wastewater treatment plant

RENTON, Wash. — King County has spent about $200,000 on what are essentially gigantic water balloons.

But if the huge rubber and fabric barriers work as advertised and keep flood water out of the county’s South Treatment Plant this winter, it’s money well spent, said Don Wickens, assistant manager of the wastewater treatment facility.
